I’m totally stoked to be writing this blog, the first of many to come! Let me introduce myself – I’m Chris Birks, radio personality, content creator and social campaigner. I’ve lived and worked in the UAE for the last four years with my wife, Clare and Monty the cat.
I host ‘Chris Birks in the Morning’ on Pearl FM - the only children's radio station in the Middle East. My philanthropic efforts are focused on youth-oriented initiatives and am humbled and honoured to have become the Ambassador for the BOB Foundation Ltd., a campaign that is close to my heart.
I first became socially active in early 2005 when I joined the ‘Make Poverty History’ campaign and marched with thousands of other people to raise awareness and pressure the UK government into taking actions towards relieving absolute poverty. At that time I stood for, and won, election to the UK Youth Parliament, a democratically elected youth organisation representing the views of young people and actively campaigned to help raise awareness of the international crisis facing young people in war-torn countries.
Now in 2014, I’m once again actively involved in that cause and determined to do everything I can to protect children and young people from falling through the cracks and ending up replicating the mistakes of previous generations. Education is the birthright of every child and nations who produce literate, well-educated and intelligent citizens are able to contribute to the development and progress of society as a whole. We must fight for the future of every child and help break this cycle of poverty, suffering and war.
Love & Light,
