The founder of Save the Children, Eglantyne Jebb, once said “Every war is a war against children.”
For those of you who don’t know, Eglantyne is one of the original game-changers. In 1919 at age 35, she began handing out leaflets of an image with two children pictured on the front with the headline above it saying “Our Blockade has caused this – millions of children starving to death”. It was in response to the British post-war blockade of Germany and eastern Europe.
Unfortunately Jebb was arrested, tried for her protest and was found guilty. However, the prosecuting counsel was so impressed with her that he offered to pay her 5 pound fine. This ladies, gentleman and fellow game-changers was the very first donation to the charity that she went on to found, Save the Children.
I found this pretty inspirational, a young woman of her time standing up against all odds and building what has truly become an “empire” for protecting children’s rights. You can’t even begin to imagine the amount of courage and strength she would’ve had to accomplish such heights. God bless her and all the future game-changers out there!
Love and Light,
